Maybe something about the current internet, Twitch, Twitter, Discord or whatever allows people to key into less mainstream games and for niche games to find their audience. I feel that stuff like Nier:A, Yakuza, Deadly Premonition and the like succeed massively this gen but got completely buried last gen. I really believe if CING were around nowadays their games would be appreciated much more. Still equally sad to see how wonderful their art was and to know they're no longer here. It's strange, since I never experienced them as an active developer but instead pilfered through the library of a long dead studio. Got to experience Hotel Dusk, Last Window, Another Code and Another Code R all for the first time over the course of the last year and a half. Art of them being older, to show the passage of time, of games that could have happened but will never come out The director and art director shared art of Kyle Hyde and Ashley Mizuki a few years ago. They said in an interview that Nintendo told them they made "consumable games", games that can only be played once, and it wasn't Nintendo's strategy anymore, so they had to fold despite having a big impact on selling the capabilities of the Nintendo DS. They had big plans for their flagships series, they even thought of a crossover between Kyle Hyde and Ashley Mizuki (Another Code/Trace Memory), but it's all gone now.ĬiNG bankrupted, and Nintendo refused to bail them out. Well-written adults with adult worries, and an obscenely abrasive main character who had a heart of gold in spite of himself. Their game had strong writing and a huge sense of place. Everythng happened in that hotel and it was incredible. Hotel Dusk was one of their most popular games, it featured an ex-cop going to a hotel to find the truth about his partner going rogue. They were known for making mystery games that had a focus on characters. The company bankrupted in 2010 shortly after making Last Window. The Touch Screen: Although not labeled above, the bottom screen has touch functionality, and some cheats require you to tap the screen. It's the 10 year anniversary of CiNG's death.Volume Up and Volume Down: No DS games make use of the volume control slider for cheat code entry.Start and Select: Not many games use Start or Select for cheat code entry on the DS, but you might occasionally need them. Most codes require swift yet accurate presses to work properly. A, B, X, and Y: These are the most common buttons used for code entry on the DS.Use the D-Pad to enter whatever directions the code uses. D-Pad: The D-Pad (short for directional pad) is used whenever a code requires an Up, Down, Left, or Right action. For example, in New Super Mario Brothers, to play as Luigi in single-player mode, hold L+ R and press A while selecting a saved game file. In most cases, cheat codes that require the use of these triggers are listed as L and R, and they are often the press-and-hold type of code. They aren't seen in the image above because the system is open. L and R: These are the triggers, or bumpers, located at the top left and top right at the back of the Nintendo DS.
